Departure-security rule
UK departure airports: carry-on liquid rules
UK airport liquid rules can differ by airport: most use 100ml containers, while some airports allow containers up to 2 litres.
Scope
Applies to security screening at UK departure and transfer airports. The exact airport rule controls; airline dangerous-goods rules and destination entry rules are separate.
What the authority says
- GOV.UK says the rule depends on the airport, including the airport you depart from and any airport where you transfer.
- At most UK airports, ordinary hand-luggage liquids must be in containers no larger than 100ml, even when partly full.
- Some UK airports may allow containers that hold up to 2 litres. Medical, dietary and baby liquids can have separate screening procedures.
Before-you-fly checklist
- 1Look up the liquid-security instructions for your exact departure airport before packing.
- 2Check each transfer airport too; a permitted container can be stopped at a later security checkpoint.
- 3Keep medicine, baby food and duty-free liquids separated and follow the airport’s screening instructions.
